LastEmber exists so that a small number of carefully chosen, sincere Moments can be felt by strangers around the world. These guidelines explain what belongs here, what doesn't, and what happens when content or accounts cross the line. They apply to every Moment, image, and interaction on LastEmber, and they work alongside The Cosmic Pact (our Terms of Use / EULA) and Privacy Policy.
Before you post, we ask one question: if today were your last day, what Moment from your recent life would you want to leave behind for the world? LastEmber is a place for sincerity, restraint, and quiet emotional honesty — not promotion, performance, or noise.
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Spam & advertising | Links/URLs, QR codes, phone numbers, emails, social media handles, repeated characters, promotional or commercial content |
| Harassment | Targeted insults, threats, bullying, hate speech, or content demeaning a person or group based on identity |
| Inappropriate content | Sexually explicit material, graphic violence or gore, content depicting or glorifying illegal acts |
| Self-harm concern | Content that promotes, encourages, or provides instructions for suicide or self-harm |
| Privacy violations | Sharing another person's personal information, precise location, or identifiable image without consent |
| Impersonation & deception | Pretending to be another person or entity, or posting deliberately false claims of crisis to manipulate others |
We understand that genuine reflections on grief, loss, loneliness, or mortality are part of what makes LastEmber meaningful, and we do not remove sincere emotional expression. However, if our automated systems detect language suggesting acute distress, the Moment is not deleted outright — instead, it is paired with a gentle, permanent banner offering local support resources:
This is a safety measure, not a punishment — the Moment continues to exist, just alongside a reminder that help is available.
Every Moment card has a visible safety control (the ... icon) that opens a report menu with four categories:
As soon as you submit a report, that Moment is immediately removed from your own feed — you will not see it again, regardless of the outcome of our review. If you are reporting content as illegal or rights-infringing, please include enough detail for us to identify the content, understand the legal concern, and contact you if follow-up is needed.
From the same safety menu, you can choose "Block User." Once blocked, that person's Moments will never appear in your feed again, on this or any other device signed in with your account. Blocking is immediate and permanent until you choose to undo it.
| Reports received | Action taken |
|---|---|
| 1 report | Moment enters our moderation review queue; its distribution weight in the public feed is reduced by 50%. |
| 2 reports | Moment is immediately suspended from all distribution and placed in a locked human-review state. |
| 3 reports | Moment is permanently removed from Cosmos, and the posting account receives a Shadow Ban: all future Moments from that account default to Private (visible only to the account holder) until reviewed. |
Our commitment: every report is reviewed — by automated AI classifier or human moderator — within 24 hours of submission.
For users, authorities, and trusted flaggers in the European Union, notices about alleged illegal content may be sent through the in-app report flow or by email to hengtong.li@foxmail.com. A useful notice should include:
Where required by law, we may provide a statement of reasons for moderation actions and offer an internal appeal path. We may reject notices that are manifestly unfounded, abusive, or insufficient to identify the content.
Before any Moment reaches another user, it passes through an automated content-safety filter that checks for spam patterns, links, contact information, QR codes, and high-risk language. Content flagged as high risk is held for review rather than distributed, and new accounts' first few posts receive additional automated scrutiny.
Repeated or severe violations can result in permanent loss of public posting privileges or account termination, at our discretion, independent of the per-Moment enforcement ladder above. We reserve the right to act faster than the thresholds above for content that presents an immediate safety risk.
If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you may contact us at the address below with the approximate date and content of the affected Moment. We review appeals on a case-by-case basis. If applicable law gives you additional appeal or complaint rights, we will honor those rights.
